Language: Hindi
Cast: Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin, Emraan Hashmi, Prosenjit Chatterjee
Director: Dibakar Banerjee
It seldom happens that a film, with not so big STARS and with not much publicity, gets a good opening just because of a good director and good story, this one is a perfect example for such a film. This one is not creating any sort of records in collections and it was never expected to do so, but definitely it could be called the best Hindi film of this year. Dibakar, who was critically acclaimed for his earlier movies like Khosla ka Ghosla, LSD(Love Sex Aur Dhoka), lived up to his reputation as a director who can entertain the audience, at the same time make them think about the issues discussed in the movie.
The story of movie is set in a small town named “Bharatnagar” (what an apt name) where ruling party is going forward to establish IBP (International Business Park) for the development of the town but are there intentions really of development? Few social activists under the leadership of Dr.Ahmadi(Prosenjit), who feel that IBP will only deteriorate the condition of local people, try to educate the same to the locals. In an accident Dr.Ahmadi suffers severe injuries, his team especially Shalini(Kaliki) strongly believes that it was not an accident but an attempt of murder. Could she prove it to Mr.Krishnan, (Abhay Deol), an IAS officer who is leading an investigation team on the accident of Dr.Ahmadi. Watch how the thriller was untold on screen for more.
Dibakar’s magic continues in this film as he unveils the political drama of the Bharatnagar with intense ease and agility. The cast was also aptly chosen, one who surprises you the most is Emraan Hashmi, who seems to come out of his Serial Kisser tag and proving his acting skills, this time with his shady smile and untidy looks. Abhay Deol and Kalki make it a point to audience with their every movie that they are the Super Stars of meaningful cinema in Bollywood. Prosenjit, a Bengali veteran, seems to add some experience to the cast. Pitobash Tripathy(Shor in the city fame) impresses in the few scenes he was seen. But the real hero of the movie remains the story and screen-play, all credits to the director and his screen play writer. Some dialogues like “Yeh pagal tha, ab sheher ka sensex kitna badh raha hai, ab marta hai kya koi”(he was a fool to die at this time when city’s market is growing so high) are intriguing and thought provoking about our nation’s condition.
For those who love to watch realistic cinema, who enjoy different movies with no masala added, this movie is a definite feast. For others I can surely say this one is no way less than a onetime watch.
